Massive 2nd Virus wave in Europe - will Victoria ever come out of lock down ?

Something 'very strange' is occurring amid Europe's second wave of infections

Something “very strange” is currently taking place in Europe amid its second wave of coronavirus infections, according to Sky News host Andrew Bolt.

He said in France there has been a huge second wave of infections, “bigger than the first one ... but no increase in deaths”.

“Which is strange”.

Mr Bolt said it is the same in many other European countries.

He said in Britain there is a "big second wave of infections, but not a second wave of deaths, or not yet”.

“Now there's been some research which might give a clue about this,” he said.

Mr Bolt spoke with infectious diseases expert Dr Soo Aleman.

Associate Professor at Karolinska University Hospital, Dr Aleman discussed recent research undertaken in Sweden concerning the virus and the rates of potential immunity among the populace.

Bobby reckons he is NOT a Danny lover.

from a Vic ressy:-
I can tell you that living in Vic now is really depressing. The way the dannylovers love their dictatorial premier, takes away their rights and freedoms over a mild flu bug, and the businesses who are taking this lying down and not getting together to fight this dictatorial government, in a land of “freedom and democracy”. And the maskers, the sick maskers, who wear their masks in worship of the dictator that is even worse than Hitler. At least Hitler took revenge over harsh restrictions from a war ended 15 years before he took power.

Alan Jones: living under the rule of fear!

The only things Australians seem to get in relation to this wretched coronavirus are negativism, alarmism and fear according to Sky News host Alan Jones.
“There are very few syllables of hope or happiness,” he said. Mr Jones said from the outset of the pandemic “the prevailing mood generated by politicians was alarmism”.

“And this was fed to us in press conferences every night”.

He said politicians have “thrived on fear” and that is why they have never once said 99 per cent of cases are mild.

“I have said that we need a National Advertising Campaign to tell us the facts and tell us the truth. “We won’t get that either. Governments won’t do it”. “It will expose them.”

I can tell you that living in Vic now is really depressing. The way the dannylovers love their dictatorial premier, takes away their rights and freedoms over a mild flu bug, and the businesses who are taking this lying down and not getting together to fight this dictatorial government, in a land of “freedom and democracy”.

  • And the maskers, the sick maskers, who wear their masks in worship of the dictator that is even worse than Hitler. At least Hitler took revenge over harsh restrictions from a war ended 15 years before he took power.

  • In other countries around the world, people with fewer freedoms than us are fighting their dictatorial governments. The Eastern Europeans and Africans who came here expecting freedom only to see dictatorial laws far worse than ever experienced in their home countries. And that includes the somalis and sudanese peoples, many of whom came here expecting some semblance to what they were told by the Australian government.

  • I’m fortunate, I live on an acre block. I have space to get out. Those people in dog boxes, flats, units, and the tiny blocks with massive houses taking the whole block are really in bad shape. They have nowhere to get out and breathe fresh air and see sunshine, the 2 best methods of combatting the political virus that is being used to keep us arrested. Arrested at home only because there are not enough jail spaces for 6 million people.

  • These vics so scared of a “virus” they can’t see, let alone know anyone who has experienced its effects, have given away all the rights and freedoms our soldiers fought for in 2 world wars, and they expect life to return to normal soon. Sorry vics, that’s not the way life works.

  • Absolute power corrupts absolutely and the dictator and his chief health killer now have that power and will do everything to keep it. Until vics grow balls, and exercise their brain’s cognitive powers, vics will continue to be prisoners until the dictators are forcibly removed from power and the health and “wellbeing” acts and the biosecurity crap acts are repealed never to be enacted in any form ever again.

  • The longer we stay in lockdown, the weaker the people become, and the strength of the state dictators becomes even more powerful. When are vics going to start asking the hard questions and take actions to remove these psychopaths from power?

  • Soon the excess dole payments are going to terminate, along with the shutdown of the coal fired plants, and then the rot is going to hit the fan. But then it will be too late.
The black death wiped out 59% of humanity in the mid 1300s. Yet the species survived after the diseases had run their natural course. This conjob 19 illness has a fatality rate of 0.1%. Lockdowns and unemployment have killed more people than this politicized disease.

  • You would be forgiven for thinking that all the people now think they are immortal and that a few deaths of elderly people on death row are hugely detrimental to the survival of the living. Yet no Constitution anywhere mentions eternal life.

  • What our affluence has done is create a class of people who now think that any over the top reaction to a mild illness is worth the devastation to health and well being of the general population at large. Well, guess what, people are going to die. I have yet to hear of a person who is immortal. But people are acting like their immortality has been compromised.

  • And these deaf people who have spent much time learning to read faces, their time has now been wasted. No longer can they communicate with their fellow masked humans, as the masks hide face expressions and make lip reading impossible. The masks are humiliating to the wearers, degrading their human status to that of animals to be tamed, and worse, are totally useless against any virus like cj19. And yet people wear these symbols of hate in their vehicles, where they cannot contract any illness.

  • Travel, once common to the masses at low cost, now has become the province of the elite. The elite do not have to quarantine, wear masks, or travel economy class. Their lives have been totally unaffected by cj19. I have yet to see Gates in a mask. Anyone notice besides me?

  • Does vaccine Gates have to worry about getting food supplies? When you have $200 billion in assets, you can hire an illegal immigrant for half the normal wage to procure the supplies you need to survive. How many vics have that privilege? Not even 1.

  • Lorraine 23/09/2020, 8:48 am
In the 1st instance of the virus being detected in Australia and the reports from Italy .Scott Morrison did a very good job……But 3 months back he could have explained they over reacted as per medical advice (that advice was dodgy at best) …and bring the National Cabinet to a close ….Take control of the $dollars and warn the States to get in line.

The simple cold Virus is now causing Parkinsons!!!!

‘Third wave’: Researchers raise alarm about coronavirus link to Parkinson’s disease
6:00am, Sep 23, 2020 Updated: 1h ago

VIDEO: Charles reveals he lost sense of taste and smell when he got coronavirus:- https://thenewdaily.com.au/news/2020/09/23/coronavirus-parkinsons-disease-research/

The Prince of Wales has revealed he lost his sense of taste and smell when he caught coronavirus, which has yet to fully return, as he carried out his public engagement public since lockdown began. Charles spoke of his personal experience of Covid-19 as he met frontline NHS staff and key workers in person, with the Duchess of Cornwall, and they praised...

Most people infected with the coronavirus suffer a total or partial loss of smell, and the oddity has concerned researchers who believe it may become a factor in the onset of Parkinson’s disease.

The reduced ability to smell is just one of several neurological symptoms that suggest the coronavirus is affecting the brain.

But it was this loss that triggered researchers at the Florey Institute to review the possible health impacts of COVID-19 after recovery.

About 90 per cent of Australians with Parkinson’s disease can’t smell, and three out of four infectees reported the same experience to a varying degree, said Leah Beauchamp, the lead author of the review.

Having put two and two together, Ms Beauchamp said the coronavirus may be making its way to a region of the brain called the olfactory bulb, which processes information about odours.

She said the bulb contains neurons that project directly into the nostrils, making them particularly susceptible to environmental factors, such as viruses.

This is where researchers see acute inflammation of what’s called the epithelial cells in people with COVID-19.

These neurons aren’t protected by the blood-brain barrier that prevents viruses and other harmful toxins from entering the brain, thereby contributing to the loss of smell.

This is one of the main routes for viruses to be transported into the brain, where they can cause damage, Ms Beauchamp said.

It’s suspected almost everybody with COVID who experienced a loss of smell had their epithelial cells inflamed, she said.

This suggests the virus can get into the neurons contained within the olfactory bulb at the front of the brain, Ms Beauchamp said.

“It’s not saying that all of those people are going to go on to get Parkinson’s disease,” she said.

“It just means that those people probably have one more factor in their life that is a risk factor for Parkinson’s disease.”

The review, published in the Journal of Parkinson’s Disease, says there needs to be long-term monitoring of people who have recovered from COVID-19 to more deeply understand the neurological consequences that may arise in those who have been infected with the coronavirus.

It warned about the need for healthcare systems around the world to be prepared for “a third wave of the virus in the form of parkinsonism”.

A recent report published in The Lancet revealed a 45-year-old man in Israel taken to hospital with the coronavirus was later diagnosed with probable Parkinson’s disease.

The man noticed a loss in his sense of smell a few days before being admitted.

He was isolated for three weeks during which time his handwriting became smaller and less readable, he had difficulties speaking and typing text messages, and his right hand started shaking.

This continued when he went home.

After being admitted to the Department of Neurology at Shaare Zedek Medical Centre in Jerusalem, the man reported that a tremor was affecting both his legs.

Co-author of the new literature review, Professor David Finkelstein said “there’s strong suspicion” neurological problems such as Parkinson’s may arise in people who have been infected with COVID-19.

The head of the Parkinson’s Disease Laboratory at the Florey Institute, Professor Finkelstein said it was “clear” the coronavirus could make its way to the brain.

He warned young people who were lax about COVID-19 that if they became infected, there’s a possibility it could cause damage and “you could pay for that years afterward”.

“There is a very strong literature that COVID gets into the brain in almost every case,” Professor Finkelstein said.

“The question of viruses causing Parkinson’s has been in the literature since after the Spanish Flu in the 1920s.”

'Acute phase' of state's aged care COVID-19 crisis ends

People evacuated from aged care at the height of Victoria's coronavirus crisis, which has claimed the lives of more than 600 elderly people in care, are being returned to nursing homes where outbreaks occurred as case numbers drop.
The task force set up to tackle widespread outbreaks within aged care is focusing on returning residents as it devotes extra resources to preventing new outbreaks at nursing homes in hotspot areas such as Casey in Melbourne's south-east.

The Victorian Aged Care Response Centre, a joint effort of the state and federal governments, said active cases within aged care homes had dropped to 328 from its peak of 2075 in mid-August.
The response centre's executive officer, Joe Buffone, said the "acute phase" of its emergency response was now coming to an end, and the focus would now shift to returning people to their homes and battling new outbreaks.

The effort has already included the deployment of health teams to 10 care homes in Casey after a coronavirus cluster in the local government area rapidly grew to 43 cases before being brought under control.
Mr Buffone said the response centre's focus was now on prevention and recovery, including returning residents to coronavirus-hit homes they had left, either to go to hospital or to stay with family or friends.
The next phase of the centre's work also involved helping homes with existing outbreaks of COVID-19 bring the the contagion under control, with military teams making visits to sites, training staff in infection control and the use of protective gear.

Coronavirus - what can Victorians do in lockdown?

The main dos and dont's as Melbourne struggles toward the end of COVID lockdown. And remember this is all dependent on the case numbers being right...

The response centre said it was supporting 11 aged care facilities to progressively transfer residents back from hospital or other alternative accommodation but that only 45 people had been returned to their homes through the centre's efforts since September 1.
There have been 1978 cases of COVID-19 in Victorian aged care homes since the outbreak began. Of those, 1144 people have recovered, 604 have died and 230 are still battling the virus.
"From day one the response centre has focused on the dignity and care of residents and the safety of staff, and this continues through the recovery phase," Mr Buffone said.

Mr Buffone, a former Country Fire Authority chief seconded by the federal government to run the response centre, is heading to Canberra to lead the Home Affairs Department's crisis preparation for the summer bushfire season, but says he will stay with the Victorian aged care response for as long as he is required.

Aged and Community Services Australia chief executive Pat Sparrow said lessons must be learnt from the aged care outbreaks, with more focus on prevention, rather than simply responding to outbreaks.
"We need a routine testing approach in aged care, that will pick up asymptomatic workers, to assist us in keeping COVID out of facilities," Ms Sparrow said.
"We need more workers in aged care which is an opportunity to contribute to the country’s economic recovery.

"The bottom line is Australia needs to reform its aged care system so providers can deliver the services the community expects and that providers want to deliver both during and after the pandemic."

Meanwhile, Monash Health is the big winner from $30 million in state government spending announced on Tuesday to upgrade 53 publicly-run aged care site homes, which house nearly 1800 elderly Victorians.
The state's largest public health service will get more than $4.4 million to upgrade its care homes in Doveton, Noble Park and two facilities in Cheltenham.

Announcing the upgrades, the state's Aged Care Minister, Luke Donnellan, struck a conciliatory tone towards his federal counterparts, praising the role of the joint response centre.
"It's brought all the resources in we need to support the aged care sector across the state, whether it be the Defence Force, AusMat [Australian Medical Assistance Teams], the [Commonwealth] Department of Health, the [state] Department of Health and Human Services, they're all in there together," Mr Donnellan said.

'Terror has robbed us of judgement

21/09/2020|6min

Sky News host Andrew Bolt says "terror has robbed us from judgement" and fear has beaten facts as Victoria, with just 11 new coronavirus infections, is set to remain under the toughest lockdown in the world for weeks to come.

On Monday, Premier Andrews said it was "a great day" as Victoria recorded only 11 new coronavirus infections and two deaths overnight.

“This is not just a good day, this is a great day,” the premier said.

Mr Bolt said while the deaths are tragic, "do we really lock up a millions of other people, particularly in Victoria, for 22 hours a day ...  at such a human cost, at such a financial cost  to stop someone in their one-hundreds from getting the virus".

"This does not make sense," he said.

"And that's why you now see revolts against the bans, and not just by people sick of living under them, month after wasted month of their lives".

"To say what I've said since March, it doesn't have to be like this, protect the old, trace the sick, lock up the infectious but let everybody else get back to life and to work," he said.

Property prices will crash and the Chinese will buy us up cheaply.
Come on, Bobby.  You have been locked up (isolated) too long. flower

Gee! Won't BO's beloved Billy the Kiddy be jumping out of his cocoon with excitement.

By the way India's Covid toll passes 5 million.

India’s total coronavirus cases passed five million on Wednesday as the pandemic extends its grip on the vast country at an ever-faster rate.

With its latest one million cases recorded in just 11 days, India has 5.02 million infections, second only to the US with 6.6 million.

India has for some time been recording the world’s biggest daily jumps in cases, and on Wednesday, the rise was just over 90,000 with a record 1290 deaths.

While India took 167 days to reach one million cases, the next million came in just 21 days, faster than the US and Brazil, according to the Times of India.

Just 29 days later, India became only the third country after the US and Brazil to post four million infections. India passed Brazil earlier this month.

Even so, and with India testing about a million people daily, many experts say this is not enough and that the true number of infections may be far higher.

This has been borne out in several studies in recent weeks measuring antibodies against the virus among the cramped populations of megacities New Delhi and Mumbai.

The India Council for Medical Research, the country’s lead pandemic agency, said last week that its survey had suggested by May 6.5 million people had been infected.

The same goes for deaths — 82,066 as of Wednesday, less than half the US toll of 196,000 — with many deaths not properly recorded by authorities even in normal times.

India has one the world’s most poorly funded healthcare systems and the nation of 1.3 billion people is home to some of the most densely populated cities and towns.

The sharp rise in cases is despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government imposing one of the world’s strictest lockdowns in March, leaving tens of millions of people in the informal labour market jobless almost overnight.

The lockdown saw complete travel bans, shutting down of businesses and factories, and the flight of millions of poor migrant workers from big cities to their villages that experts say caused the virus to spread from urban centres to small towns.

India’s GDP slumped nearly 24 per cent in the first quarter, one of the steepest drops among major economies.

The lockdown has been steadily eased even as infections soar, with schools set to open for some classes on Monday — along with tourist hotspot the Taj Mahal.

The pandemic has now killed more than 935,000 people worldwide, based on official sources.

More than 29.5 million cases have been confirmed.

After the US, Brazil has the most deaths with 133,100. Mexico has 71,700 and Britain 41,800.

Print the number who have died not the infections.
5 million infections is 0.04% of the population of 1.3 billion.
Last Saturday's report was that 27,000 had died. That is 0.0021% of the population.
25,000 Indians die EVERY DAY no matter about Covid.
The media needs to stop sensationalising Covid and set about reporting constructive and accurate numbers.
(Like we have 7 people on ventilators but 6993 ventilators ARE NOT BEING NEEDED).
Stop scaring people.

ian 3 HOURS AGO
Thanks for some real statistics, David.

Richard 6 HOURS AGO
India’s TOLL, at 80k, is third in the world, although at only 60 per million it ranks lower than most other countries.

Peter 6 HOURS AGO
No wonder China is rattling the sabers on India's border. A weakened foe represents easy pickings in its territorial drive.

David 4 HOURS AGO
A weaken foe! Get real.
There are 1.3 billion Indians and 0.04% have the flu and 0.0021% has subsequently died.
I am sure China has a calculator just like me.

John 6 HOURS AGO
Toll? This misuse of the word, to include those who are infected, being asymtomatic or mildly recoverable ill, is a misleading exaggeration.

David 4 HOURS AGO
Exactly.  But using words in this way keeps the multitudes frightened and under control.
The smart ones who speak out are arrested in their homes, have their computers seized or resign their government position as a protest to speak out.
Weekly I write the numbers here, but am rarely posted.

Byron 9 HOURS AGO
It was always going to be a bigger problem for India for all of the reasons identified in the article, but the biggest reason being they are a relatively non compliant democracy, where rules are both observed and enforced in a contextually flexible way. If your job is to beg and you live hand to mouth earning just a meal from a days work, you cannot isolate, if you do you die.

Indian people are also lovely touchy folk and this cultural norm is a gotcha for the current situation.

I  for one hope that the virus diminishes in ferocity as it travels and that their lack of distancing capability ultimately immunes their population. Their chances of control are very low and that is no ones fault, it just is.

Paul 19 HOURS AGO
India’s toll is NOT 5,000,000 but 82,000.
Is the press now going to use the same sort of language for the road toll - Australia’s road toll now reaches 1,000,000!

David 4 HOURS AGO
India's death toll as of last Saturday was 27,444 not 82,000.
Again, mis information sold to the public to keep this "pandemic" running.

John 22 HOURS AGO
I am not sure what is the point of constantly counting the number of infected people. At the end of the day, let us protect the vulnerable and count the victims, not just those that test positive. Most have few symptoms anyway

RJM 19 HOURS AGO
Agree: India currently have 59 deaths per million of population, or 0.0059%

RUSSELL 8 HOURS AGO
Even those infected with “few” symptoms have no knowledge of what the long term consequences will be on their bodies. Even if only 10 % have long term damage this will be a massive task caring for them.

Anthony 7 HOURS AGO
Where did the 10% figure come from?

John 6 HOURS AGO
One thing you need to know. The huge number of diabetics in India and lot of them suffer the consequences, stomacal cancer is rife etc... in comparison, this is nothing .

Paul 4 HOURS AGO
Why 10% - why not 50% 0r 0.5% 0r any other number plucked out of the air.

But, unlikely, as this Virus is just like the many other cold viruses that surround all of us every day every time we go on the crowded street or into a busy shop.

Imagine being a dentist looking down a patient's throat and seeing the Virus microbes busily coating the inside of the patients lungs with pus!!!!

The Flu virus is much more potent than this weak cold type virus as it is difficult to get over the flu even for a fit healthy person. Unless you have had the Flu Vax which is rumored to cause autism.

In 12 months the virus will be largely forgotten until a NEW, MORE DEADLY VERSION, hits the streets!!!!  Is the PLAGUE returning ? Will there be dead bodies piled up on the streets ?

Is the Virus a plot to reduce the cost of aged care ? Seems like it down in Victoria where the elderly are regarded as expendable.

Is the Virus a UN plot to reduce the world population by about 6 billion to get down to a sustainable population level in their One World Socialist "Govt" in a Sustainable World ?

It's the End Times - we're doomed.

We could all have had it however - as it's a Chinese bio weapon -

we don't know what the long term effects are?

It does attack every part of the human body unlike other viruses.

Thousands of virus cases undetected: study

An antibodies study has shed light on Australian virus case numbers. - AAP

Researchers hope antibody testing can be rolled out across the community after a study raised the prospect that some 60,000 Australians had unknowingly contracted COVID-19 by July.

The research released this week was funded by the Department of Health and largely involved researchers from the Australian National University's John Curtin School of Medical Research, as well as deputy chief medical officer Nick Coatsworth.

Some 2991 elective surgery patients were screened, with 41 having antibodies to the virus.

This equates to 0.28 per cent or 71,400 Australians who could have had the virus based on a population of 25.5 million.

Noting the small sample size, Dr Coatsworth emphasised the number of undetected cases was simply an estimate.

"It doesn't precisely respond to reality," he told reporters in Canberra.

"It's not going to change our policy, we base our restrictions policy on the number of acute cases of COVID-19."

Study co-lead Elizabeth Gardiner hopes antibody tests will be helpful for easing restrictions, as well as for the rollout of a potential coronavirus vaccine.

"It's like a footprint for someone that had an exposure," Professor Gardiner told AAP on Wednesday.

While it's currently uncertain how long COVID-19 antibodies last for, they can last a long time for other viruses.

In regards to a vaccine, such testing could look at the power of the antibodies to protect against the virus.

Prof Gardiner says it's still safest for someone with antibodies to get the vaccine because it's unclear how the virus mutates.

"We just don't know enough yet about this virus."

Given Dr Coatsworth's involvement on the research Gardiner expects it to be discussed by the nation's expert medical panel in regards to rolling out the blood tests across the community, particularly in schools.
Professor Gardiner hopes they consider how it can help to restart elective surgeries.

"There's a massive backlog of people waiting for elective surgery, we can probably open that up a bit wider and get people having their elective surgery with confidence."

The study is currently under peer review for the Journal of Infectious Diseases, and the team are expecting to hear back within a few weeks.
"We're very confident of the study and the peer review will make it even stronger," Prof Gardiner said.

The study was conducted over June and July, with the last blood sample taken on July 17 when Australia's coronavirus cases were at about 11,000.

The paper notes reported cases are likely to only represent a fraction of actual infections, as 40 per cent of cases are mild, asymptomatic or undiagnosed.

The Department of Health's website puts total confirmed coronavirus cases in Australia at 26,738 up until Tuesday.
