Legendary Australian fashion designer, Carla Zampatti dies, aged 78


Legendary Australian fashion designer Carla Zampatti has died at the age of 78, following a week-long hospitalisation after a fall at the Opera last weekend.
Zampatti was placed “under observation” at Sydney’s St Vincent’s Hospital after falling down stairs at the opening of La Traviata at Mrs Macquarie’s Point last Friday Night.
It’s understood she was in a coma and never woke up, The Daily Telegraphreports.
She was rendered unconscious from the fall and was assisted by a first aid professional, before ambulance officers treated her at the scene and she was transported to hospital.
“Carla is very grateful for the support from medically trained members of the audience who assisted and for the excellent care from the team at St Vincent’s Hospital,” a family spokesman said earlier this week.

Award-winning British actress Diana Rigg, who starred in the original The Avengers television series and Game of Thrones, has died at the age of 82.
“It is with tremendous sadness that we announce that Dame Diana Rigg died peacefully early this morning,” Rigg’s agent, Simon Beresford, said in a statement.
“She was at home with her family who have asked for privacy at this difficult time,” he added, calling her “an icon of theatre, film and television”.

Cricket: Former England all-rounder David Capel dies aged 57

Former England all-rounder David Capel has died aged 57 following a long illness, his former county Northamptonshire announced on Wednesday.
Capel, who played 15 Tests and 23 one-day internationals between 1987 and 1990, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2018.
The club said on their Twitter account: “It is with incredibly heavy hearts that we announce the death of former Northamptonshire and England great David Capel at the age of 57.”

Capel, who was one of a number of all-rounders burdened with the tag of being the “new Ian Botham”, made his Test debut against Pakistan in 1987, scoring a half century.
He was also part of the England team that produced a huge shock by beating the powerful West Indies in Jamaica in 1990.

Carol Channing has died, age 97.

Her big break came in 1949 when she was cast as the diamond-obsessed showgirl Lorelei Lee in the Broadway musical Gentleman Prefer Blondes, in which she performed the now classic song Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend (Marilyn Monroe played the same role in the movie.

In 1964 she scored her most iconic role as Dolly Gallagher Levi, a turn of the century matchmaker, in the musical Hello, Dolly!
