A 102-year-old man has been charged with sexually assaulting a 94-year-old woman at an aged care home.

The alleged sexual assault took place at the Bupa Queens Park facility where both were residents in Waverley, in Sydney's eastern suburbs about 12.30pm on Tuesday.

The man was arrested and taken to Waverley Police Station and charged with aggravated indecent assault.

He is believed to be the oldest ever person ever arrested in Australia.

He was granted conditional police bail to appear at Waverley Local Court on November 20.

A Bupa spokesman said they alerted police as soon as they were aware of the alleged incident.

'We sympathise with the resident and her family for what they are going through, and we are deeply sorry that this alleged assault occurred in our care home,' a spokesman told Daily Mail Australia.

The safety and well being of our residents is our utmost priority and we contacted the NSW Police and Department of Health as soon as we became aware of the matter.

As this matter is currently before the courts we are unable provide further details.'

Bupa Queens Park is described as a 'flagship modern care home' on the company's website.

'The offers superior accommodation with quality single ensuite rooms,' a description of the facility reads.
