- Their weekend assignment was to sell something, then give a talk on salesmanship.
Little Sally led off. "I sold SES cookies and I made $30" she said proudly. "My sales approach was to appeal to the customer's civic spirit and I credit that approach for my obvious success."
"Very good", said the teacher.
Little Debbie was next. "I sold magazines" she said, "I made $45 and I explained to everyone that magazines would keep them up on current events."
"Very good, Debbie", said the teacher.
Eventually, it was Little Johnny's turn. The teacher held her breath. Little Johnny walked to the front of the classroom and dumped a box full of cash on the teacher's desk. "$2,467", he said.
"$2,467!" cried the teacher, "What in the world were you selling?"
Toothbrushes", said Little Johnny.
"Toothbrushes", echoed the teacher, "How could you possibly sell enough tooth brushes to make that much money?"
"I found the busiest corner in town", said Little Johnny, "I set up a Chip & Dip stand and I gave everybody who walked by a free sample." They all said the same thing, "Hey, this tastes like dog poop!"
Then I would say, "It is dog poop, you wanna buy a toothbrush?"
I used the Bill Shorten method of giving you some crap, dressing it up so it looks good, telling you it's free, and then making you pay to get the bad taste out of your mouth."
Little Johnny got an A for his assignment. Bless his heart. One of the comments on Pickering. http://pickeringpost.com/story/libs-media-still-don-t-get-it-/8664

- Am shocked at the deflection shooting going on here! Fact is that the bed wetting wentworthians felt fulfilled by having their member as prime minister. They felt deprived when his colleagues saw him as hopeless. But the rest of the country had had enough of him so how can anyone say that this result should be an indication that the government needs to revert to implementing labor policies in a spirit of compromise of which only turncoat was capable? Phelps is only going to be there until the next election. I can’t even see why anyone would even expect a lone loony independent to seriously put forward policies!
Just in case you missed it, she does not have a majority! http://catallaxyfiles.com/2018/10/20/wentworth-forum/

| I guess that Malcolm can come back home now that he has been able to get back at the Libs for sacking him. :D Those "doctors' wives" who voted for Phelps, loved Turncoat. Plus all the LBGTXYZ lot who live around there would have voted for Phelps. She did stuff up in her speech and said Warringah instead of Wentworth. Does she know where she is? Labor did poorly and the poor old Greens still only got less than 10% of the vote (last I looked). The Greens are stuck on that number. | |

Independent candidate Kerryn Phelps is set for victory over the Morrison government in the Wentworth by-election this Saturday, as Liberal Party polling shows the former Australian Medical Association president ahead of Liberal candidate Dave Sharma 55 per cent to 45 per cent on a two-party-preferred basis. The polling, leaked to The Australian, also shows 75 per cent of those in the seat believe the government will retain it. “We are being killed by the expectation (we will win it),” one Liberal said last night. Defeat in Wentworth would mean the Morrison government lost its one-seat majority and have to rely on the support of independents to govern. When the Liberals polled the seat in Sydney’s eastern suburbs last week, Dr Phelps was a fraction of a percentage point ahead. It is understood that the latest polling had Mr Sharma polling in the mid-30s on primary votes and Dr Phelps well into the 20s, clearly ahead of Labor. Dr Phelps must finish second to secure the seat as Labor is regarded as being unable to win due to the independent directing preferences to the Liberals ahead of Labor on her how-to-vote card. Not helping Mr Sharma is the fact that former prime minister and previous member Malcolm Turnbull will not do a robocall or send a letter supporting Mr Sharma ahead of Saturday’s by-election. Instead, Mr Turnbull’s former deputy Julie Bishop has been rolled out to give Mr Sharma support. In a robocall to residents of Wentworth, Ms Bishop said she worked with Mr Sharma when he was a diplomat and he would make a great MP. “I know some may have concerns about recent political events. I believe Dave Sharma will be part of the solution,” Ms Bishop says in the call. “I’m supporting Dave Sharma as our candidate for the seat of Wentworth. When I was foreign minister, I got to know Dave Sharma well. He was a champion for Australia’s interests when he served overseas as a diplomat, including as our ambassador to Israel. Dave would bring a unique set of skills to the parliament and be a real asset. “He knows how to bring people together and work in the interests of Australia. He will be a champion for the people of Wentworth, as he was a champion for the people of Australia.” The NSW Liberal Party had been hopeful Mr Turnbull would help Mr Sharma at the end of his campaign in some way, but Liberal sources have confirmed the former prime minister intends to watch from New York while the by-election takes place without helping. The only intervention Mr Turnbull made was during the preselection where he urged Mr Sharma to stay the course even though Scott Morrison was backing Katherine O’Regan. On September 13, Mr Turnbull tweeted: “Congratulations from Lucy and me to @DaveSharma — new Liberal candidate for Wentworth. As a diplomat, Dave has represented Australia magnificently overseas, and now if elected will make a great contribution in our national parliament.” Mr Turnbull’s son, Alex, then posted a Facebook message urging against a Liberal vote in the seat. He urged voters to “send a signal about which way the Liberal Party is going and your displeasure at where it is going’’. Dr Phelps, meanwhile, is being accused of having breached electoral laws in Wentworth because her social media accounts are not authorised and she has put up more than 500 posts. From March 15, new authorisation requirements were introduced by the Australian Electoral Commission to cover a broad range of communication that includes an “electoral matter”. In the case of social media, the specific requirements are that either each communication is to be authorised at the end of the communication, or for the social media account is to be authorised in the bio/about section of the account. Since announcing her candidacy on September 16, Dr Phelps has posted, shared or retweeted from her accounts 92 times from Facebook, 474 times from Twitter and eight times from Instagram without the authorisation. Her spokesman declined to comment on the matter yesterday.

| Sharma is an Indian name. I understand that David Sharma is Jewish? I imagine that there are a lot of Jewish people in the Wentworth Electorate. If Malcolm Turncoat "approved" of him, that doesn't go down well. Mal will probably vote for Doctor Whatsit. | |

| Wentworth by-election 2018: Sharma trails behind Murray, Phelps
Prime Minister Scott Morrison has warned Wentworth by-election voters to think "carefully" before voting for independent candidate Kerryn Phelps, after a new poll placed her far ahead of Liberal opponent Dave Sharma.
The poll by independent research organisation Voter Choice Project showed Mr Sharma trailing behind Dr Phelps and Labor candidate Tim Murray by about 10 and 11 points respectively. The final sample involved 736 people.
While Mr Sharma received 38.8 per cent of the likely first preference vote in comparison to Dr Phelps' 23.5 per cent, the projected two party preferred figures showed the independent candidate pulling ahead to 55.4 per cent to his 44.6 per cent.
Researcher Raphaella Kathryn Crosby said the results revealed that Mr Sharma would lose the by-election if the Liberal primary vote was not over 40 per cent.
"It is unclear whether it will be Sharma vs Phelps or Sharma vs Murray, but it doesn't matter because whoever ends up [against Sharma] will win," Ms Crosby said.
If Dr Phelps "survives the preference count, she will win over Dave Sharma", Ms Crosby said.
Dr Phelps said she found the results "heartening" and said she stood for "strong policies the people of Wentworth actually care about".
"Like climate change action, like the treatment of asylum seekers, supporting small businesses, an economy considerate of all people, social justice issues and of course the religious freedoms bill," she said.
A Liberal loss would cause instability, says PM
But Mr Morrison claimed a Liberal Party loss in next weekend's Wentworth by-election would cause "unnecessary instability" because his party would no longer hold the majority of federal seats.
"Liberals who are thinking about voting for the independent [candidate] should think about that very carefully, because she's [Dr Phelps] clearly running strongly second," he said.
"[If] she continues in that place, she can still be a long way behind in primaries … [and then] come over the top and win that by-election.
"Waking up to a hung parliament is not something I think the people of Wentworth of people would want to see.

| Independent Wentworth candidate Kerryn Phelps has announced she will be preferencing the Liberal party before Labor.
Dr Phelps unexpectedly made the announcement to the media which was waiting for an appearance by Prime Minister Scott Morrison with Liberal candidate Dave Sharma in Double Bay.
Dr Phelps, who has her doctors surgery in the up-market suburb, said she would have run for Labor preselection if she intended to back Bill Shorten.
“If I wanted to stand for the Labor Party, I would have stood for Labor preselection. I’m standing as an independent and that is what I am going to do,” she said.
Dr Phelps said because of the number of candidates running in the by-election she believed it was necessary to distribute how to vote cards and that she would preference the Libs ahead of Labor.
“My view is that I will be putting out how to vote cards because with so many people running as candidates, I think people need some kind of guidance of how to vote,” Dr Phelps said.
“I’d like to announce today that I intend to preference Liberal ahead of Labor.”
Following the announcement by Dr Phelps, Mr Morrison pulled out of his scheduled press conference, which was due to be held at a cafe across the road from the surgery owned by Dr Phelps.
The PM’s press secretary said he needed to attend to the Catholic and independent school funding issue which was announced yesterday and that Mr Morrison will instead attend a school in the area later today.
The Wentworth by-election was triggered when Malcolm Turnbull quit last month after he was ousted from the leadership.
The Australian has revealed that gun Labor campaign operative Darrin Barnett would be heading the campaign team of Dr Phelps instead of helping the ALP’s candidate Tim Murray.
